Green Stormwater Infrastructure Project Enters Its Third Month
The Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) project on Wellpoint Care Network’s campus continues, but completion may be delayed due to weather conditions.
To date, the project has had 14 rain days where work had to be paused or halted. If more rain days occur, the anticipated completion date of October 2024 could be pushed back.
Despite the conditions, much work has been completed. During the third month of construction, crews:
- Spread, exported and dewatered topsoil
- Continued excavation on the South basin, with plans to start on the North basin
- Started landscaping stabilization/seeding and matting (also known as erosion control blankets)
- Started installation of the storm sewer
In August, native plants will be planted in the stormwater basins once excavation is done. Some traffic lanes along Capitol Drive will be closed for utility work.
The project is still on track to be completed by the end of this year. Wellpoint Care Network thanks our community for the continued support of this project.
ABOUT THE GSI PROJECT
The Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) project is a collaborative effort between Wellpoint Care Network and the Fresh Coast Protection Partnership, a Community-Based Partnership between Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) and Corvias Infrastructure Solutions (CIS).
The GSI project is part of a larger multi-year effort to transform Wellpoint Care’s historic campus into a place where families, neighbors and community partners will find trauma-informed social services, mental health resources and a place to connect, collaborate and care for themselves and one another.
Once complete, the GSI project is designed to capture at least one million gallons of stormwater and includes constructed wetlands, bioswales and native landscaping.
