Trauma Informed Care Training

The need for trauma-informed therapists, counselors, case managers and first responders has never been higher. But as a spike in demand takes its toll on caregivers, patient outcomes can suffer. To better distribute the responsibility, we need to rethink how Trauma Informed Care education can transform existing systems.

Wellpoint Care Network has decades of collective experience in trauma-informed case management, youth residential treatment, family preservation and mental health services. We’ve gained substantial direct practice experience by guiding children and families through their trauma-informed healing journeys, and have established a proven, nationally-renowned trauma-informed practice and culture.

Transforming Systems Through Trauma Informed Care

Our purpose is to help train other professionals so they can go out and help people overcome barriers. It may be the only way to prevent future adversity and related behaviors.

You don’t have to be part of a large system to sign up for Trauma Informed Care training or consulting. All you need is a commitment to learning and practicing the methodologies we’ve been perfecting for more than a decade.

The Importance of a Trauma-informed Approach

Study Shows How Trauma Informed Care Positively Impacts Child Welfare Outcomes

From 2013-2016, researchers followed about 600 children in Milwaukee County’s child welfare system. This study provided quantitative evidence of Trauma Informed Care’s ability to impact the child welfare system. Practicing in a trauma-responsive manner improved placement stability and permanence, and led to better overall staff satisfaction.

As featured on “60 Minutes” with Special Correspondent Oprah Winfrey

In 2018, Oprah Winfrey traveled back to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to learn how Wellpoint Care Network (then known as SaintA) was using innovative trauma-informed practices to help teenager Alisha Fox learn to overcome a decade of abuse.

“We might not be able to ever prevent the stuff that happens to kids.” says Wellpoint Care Network’s Tim Grove. “But we are fully in charge of how we respond when we see it.”

Community Collaboration is the Goal in Sheboygan County

As a community Health Center, Lakeshore Community Health Care aims to reduce barriers to accessing care and treatment. The organization, which has a clinics in Sheboygan, Manitowoc and West Bend, has funneled their efforts into trauma-informed practices.

Frank Simac is the School-Based Mental Health Program Manager at Lakeshore. Since becoming certified to train Wellpoint Care’s Seven Essential Ingredients framework in 2021, he has implemented trauma-informed training for all 150 Lakeshore employees. He says more healthcare systems would benefit from Trauma Informed Care training, principles, and practices.

“When people think of Trauma Informed Care, often they just think of the knowledge part instead of the application part,” says Simac. “The 7ei does a good job bridging that gap. There’s a lot of knowledge, and there’s a lot of concrete skills and behaviors that could be implemented right away.”
