A Year of Transition: New Board Leadership at Wellpoint Care Network

As Wellpoint Care Network enters a new chapter with Reggie Newson as President and CEO, we are excited to announce changes to our Board of Directors that bring new expertise and fresh perspectives to help guide the future of this storied organization.
Clyde Tinnen, Partner at Foley & Lardner LLP, is now Chair of the Board. Clyde has been a member of the Wellpoint Care Board of Directors for five years and previously served as Vice Chair.
“This organization has a long and strong history in Milwaukee, and that’s wonderful,” said Tinnen. “But there’s still so much work to be done. It’s such an exciting time to be stepping in this role, especially alongside a new CEO. Wellpoint Care was very fortunate to have a tremendous leader in Ann Leinfelder Grove for so long. And now to have the benefit of someone like Reggie stepping in, who’s equally inspiring, is really exciting to me.”
“I look forward to working with Clyde as we think about aligning our Board to move into the next chapter of Wellpoint Care,” said Newson. “Our goal is to help move the organization forward for the next 175 years.”
Tinnen takes over for James Madlom, CEO of Mueller Communications, who is completing his term as Board Chair at Wellpoint Care.
“I want to thank James for his servant leadership,” said Newson. “James is very thoughtful and strategic when it comes to elevating the Wellpoint Care mission and serving the families in Milwaukee.”

“It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey all the way through,” added Madlom. “I feel profoundly honored to be able to serve the organization in this way, an organization that I care so much about. I think my tenure as Board Chair became defined by Ann’s decision to retire after 30+ years at Wellpoint Care, and then the journey to find the right, next best fit for Wellpoint Care in Reggie.”
Madlom will continue to serve as a member on the Board of Directors. As CEO, Newson will take the role of Secretary. Andrew Rebstock of Johnson Controls was named Treasurer, and Melanie Maddux of Rite-Hite was named Vice Chair.
“I think that collectively, we’re all bringing a newness and excitement about reimagining what we can be,” said Tinnen.
“We have a solid foundation that now other opportunities can spring from,” added Madlom. “That includes continued work to complete campus renovations that allow for more community-focused events to connect people with the support and resources they need.”
As part of the annual governance review, several updates to Board committees are also taking place to better align with the structure of the organization.
“We’re very grateful that James as the immediate past Chair has agreed to be the new Chair of the Program Committee,” said Newson. “This newly created committee will be focused on the integration of the Child and Family Well-being programs, as well as the Behavioral Health service line. This change better meets the needs of our families as it relates to Wellpoint Care’s overall strategy around prevention, intervention and addressing issues around trauma. The committee is going to focus on reviewing best practices that will enable us to have a greater impact on the people that we’re privileged to serve.”
At Wellpoint Care Network, we believe every child and family deserves the opportunity to thrive. Our Board of Directors plays a vital role in advancing that mission.
“When you look around the landscape of Milwaukee, there are many organizations doing really great work,” said Madlom. “But I think Wellpoint Care is so special because of the very personal impact that it has on people’s lives. We transform the lives of thousands each year, not only on our campus or in schools, but also through our Trauma Informed Care work.”
“2020 and the pandemic was a traumatic time for many of us,” added Tinnen. “But it really brought to light the true challenges and concerns so many people in our community are dealing with. Having an opportunity to help families in our community heal is a tremendous feeling. There are so many opportunities to serve and to feel part of the Wellpoint Care story. I encourage anyone interested in joining our mission to jump in.”
