Diapers, Donuts, and Doing Good: Johnson Financial Group Steps Up for Local Families

“Who doesn’t love a friendly competition — and a sweet treat!” says Shana Mallory, Officer Treasury Portfolio Manager at Johnson Financial Group.
While Wellpoint Care Network was collecting Diapers for Dads, Mallory was leading an effort to collect Diapers for Donuts.
“We have eight Milwaukee area branches, so we encouraged each location to collect diapers that we then donated to Wellpoint Care Network for the annual event,” said Mallory. “The incentive was that whoever collected the most would win donuts for the entire branch!”
“Because we are a Wisconsin-based company, Johnson Financial Group is big on giving back to the communities that we are in,” added Alexis Wolff, Commercial Banking Relationship Manager. “The donuts were just an added bonus!”
The diaper collection was part of an ongoing partnership between Wellpoint Care Network and Johnson Financial Group. Wolff and Mallory were part of a group of employees who also volunteered at Wellpoint Care Network’s Back to School Bash this past summer.

“It was so fun working that event and seeing how excited people were and just all the smiles,” added Wolff. “It was so rewarding being there for an afternoon and seeing all these kids walk away with backpacks and school supplies. Or getting a haircut. Something that you might take for granted, but for them, it’s a big deal. They were so appreciative. For us, we were immediately like, ‘what else can we do?’ So when we learned about Diapers for Dads, we knew we wanted to get involved.”
Wolff adds that even though collecting diapers may seem like a simple gesture, she knows what a huge impact it can have on local families.
“I’m actually a new mom as of January, so I’m very familiar with the world of diapers. Being in that time of life, you realize what a huge burden diapers can be to someone. I’m very grateful to be in a position to be able to just go to the store when I need to and buy diapers. But others are left wondering how they are going to afford such an expensive essential item. To be able to provide that support to people within our community is huge. It’s one less thing they have to worry about that, especially during the holidays.”
The diaper drive and competition proved to be a success, bringing in hundreds of donations across the eight branches.

Then on Friday, December 12, a special donut delivery from Wellpoint Care Network President and CEO Reggie Newson for the winner — Franklin.
“Generally speaking, Franklin’s a very competitive branch, so we were excited,” said Mark Borowski, Franklin branch manager. “But really the community wins in the end, and that’s what it’s all about.”
