Green Infrastructure Project Nearing Completion, Ribbon Cutting Planned
The Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) project on Wellpoint Care Network’s campus is nearing completion.
During the fifth month of construction, crews:
- Began planting and installation of trees
- Completed landscape stabilization/seeding and matting
- Completed work at the North and the Northwest basin
- Installed stormwater, sewer and swale from the North basin to the Northwest basin
- Finished South swale
The project is scheduled for completion in early October, as originally anticipated. To celebrate the completion of the project, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held in late October on Wellpoint Care Network’s campus.
We want to thank our community for their continued support of this project and are excited about the positive impact it will have for years to come.
ABOUT THE GSI PROJECT
The Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) project is a collaborative effort between Wellpoint Care Network and the Fresh Coast Protection Partnership, a Community-Based Partnership between Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) and Corvias Infrastructure Solutions (CIS).
The GSI project is part of a larger multi-year effort to transform Wellpoint Care’s historic campus into a place where families, neighbors and community partners will find trauma-informed social services, mental health resources and a place to connect, collaborate and care for themselves and one another.
Once complete, the GSI project is designed to capture at least one million gallons of stormwater and includes constructed wetlands, bioswales and native landscaping.
