Five Pillars of Stability — A Framework for Helping Children and Families Thrive
At Wellpoint Care Network, we know that unresolved trauma leads to a host of challenges for children, adults and families, the most concerning of which could be the instability it causes in key areas of life.
That’s why we weave the Five Pillars of Stability (Employment, Education, Housing, Health, Caring Connections) into everything we do.
“We’ve learned from the people in our care how social determinants of health are so important to their well-being,” said Ann Leinfelder Grove, Wellpoint Care Network President and CEO. “In 2013, we began utilizing the Five Pillars of Stability, a tool that allows us to get to know the people we serve and to understand whether they have any needs in these five crucial areas. No matter what program they come to Wellpoint Care to be part of, we address their needs and provide them with community resources to enhance their pathway to stability.”
The last few years, Wellpoint Care Network has hosted several events focused on the Education Pillar — from the Back to School Bash, resource fairs, Brunch n Learn events, panels and more.
“That education piece is meticulously and intentionally woven into everything that we do,” said Alex Williams, Wellpoint Care Network Director of Community Engagement. “Getting young people the right education tools can change the trajectory of their life. By focusing on this pillar, we are not only worried about the present, but shaping the future as well.”
On Thursday, April 18, more than 150 first through third graders from Congress School in Milwaukee spent that day on the Wellpoint Care campus for the annual “R.E.A.D. to Me” event. R.E.A.D. stands for Readiness, Enrichment, Access and Development.
The students heard from local authors, spent time reading and sharing ideas in small groups, and even got to take home a few books!
