2023 Rising Tide Conference Promotes Healing from Trauma
Among those we serve at Wellpoint Care Network – children, adults and families of all types – there is one common denominator: trauma. Whether it be childhood neglect or abuse; living in poverty or other adversities; historical trauma or racial injustices that still occur today, trauma creates powerful barriers to thriving in our day-to-day lives.
Since trauma is at the core of so many hurdles for so many people, we have made Trauma Informed Care central to our work.
Being at the forefront of the Trauma Informed Care movement for 15 years now, it is important to us that we continue to partner with organizations that share our goal of creating positive change.
One of those ongoing partnerships is with Michael and Gabby Remole of Gateway Family Services of Illinois.
“We met Michael and Gabby for the first time at a Neurosequential Model Symposium in Banff, Canada, just as they were beginning their work in the Neurosequential Model,” said Ann Leinfelder Grove, President and CEO at Wellpoint Care Network. “Right off the bat, we found them to be like-minded leaders focused on serving children and families. Our friendship and our colleagial relationship with them go back several years.”
The Remole’s and Gateway Family Services are the hosts of the 2023 Rising Tide Conference, which Wellpoint Care Network is excited to once again be a part of.
“Quite frankly, when we got the opportunity to bring this lineup of speakers to people, we thought it was a really great chance to not just frame the past few years in a helpful way, but get people thinking about some of the broader, big picture strategies and solutions,” said Tim Grove, Senior Director of Trauma Informed Strategy and Practice at Wellpoint Care Network.
The Rising Tide Conference brings together mental health experts from around the world to teach effective strategies in helping others heal from trauma.
“Dr. Stephen Porges, the researcher who created the Polyvagal Theory, is one of the keynotes,” said Ann. “Dr. Bruce Perry, one of our colleagues and friends, is also a keynote.”
Dr. J. Stuart Ablon, Dr. Melissa Merrick, Teacher of the Year Alex Kajitani, and former Chicago Cubs player Ben Zobrist are also speakers.
Several breakout sessions will also take place, allowing attendees to takeaway a deeper understanding of the content taught by the keynote speakers.
Ann and Tim will lead a session on Developing a Trauma Responsive System of Care.
“It’s going to be a walkthrough of our evolution in terms of how we understand helping people recover and heal from trauma at the individual level, at the community level and now at the collective level,” said Tim. “When you go through that process, your thoughts about what seems to help and strategies, they evolve as well. It’ll be fun to walk people through that journey.”
We understand that there are countless conferences out there sharing that they will help you address the impact of trauma. Rising Tide will equip you with innovative and practical strategies to help heal your home, schools & communities.
“You can go and see lots of people talk about stress and trauma, but to have them all organized into one event with a message that is as appropriate to the times as I can think of, it’s a no brainer,” said Tim. “To have curated for you some of the best minds thinking about these problems and opportunities is pretty rare and pretty unique.”
“I think access to some of the countries – really, the world’s – leading experts for a day or so in October would be a great use of people’s time to develop their expertise a little better,” added Ann. “Somebody would really get a great experience by choosing to engage.”
