Become a Certified Trauma-informed Trainer

Because trauma is at the core of so many hurdles for so many people, Wellpoint Care Network has made Trauma Informed Care central to our work. It’s now an organizational philosophy infused across our entire continuum of care — with empirical results.

Since 2008, we’ve trained more than 80,000 individuals in the Seven Essential Ingredients (7ei) of Trauma Informed Care framework nationwide. And to spread the reach even farther, we soon began to offer our Train the Trainer course to ensure our cutting-edge concepts, activities and trauma-informed resources could always be available to those who need them most.

What is Train the Trainer?

Successful completion of one of Wellpoint Care Network’s Train the Trainer courses certifies individuals to train the 7ei model at their organization. Each two-year certification includes:

  • A four-day learning session led by expert Wellpoint Care Network training staff (in-person, virtual and hybrid sessions available).
  • Individualized coaching opportunities to help you deliver the content most effectively.
  • The ability to provide ongoing professional development to current and new staff at their named entity (facility, agency, school district or consortium).
  • Online Access to our Virtual Trainer Community for the most up-to-date training materials, handouts and presentations.
  • Monthly Virtual Office Hours to answer your questions and meet other trainers.
  • Monthly Trainer Newsletter providing the latest insights and commentary from Wellpoint Care staff.
  • Discounts on future Re-certification.

Train the Trainer FEEDBACK FROM A FIRST RESPONDER

Join a Growing Community of Certified Trauma-informed Trainers

Current estimates say the rate of trauma prevalence in America is currently 33%. That’s one in three people! And according to Mental Health America, the ratio of people to available clinicians is 340:1. If we’re going to make any kind of impact on the problem, it’s clear that something needs to change.

That’s where you come in.

At Wellpoint Care Network, we know everyday interactions matter. And we believe everyone has the potential to become part of the solution. That’s why we empower both clinical and non-clinical professionals alike with trauma-informed skills and tools.

By becoming certified to train members of your organization in the Seven Essential Ingredients of Trauma Informed Care framework, you’ll be increasing the number of trauma-informed caregivers in your community and making a true difference in the lives of the children and families you interact with every day.

Empowering Survivors: A Trauma-Informed Approach to Defense Training

For Andrea and Lonnie Person, trauma-informed training is a passion project. Andrea is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and domestic violence. Her husband Lonnie, rescued as a child from war-ravaged Vietnam, has lived his life understanding the impact of historical and generational trauma.

Together, the Loveland, Colorado couple has been empowering survivors of sexual and domestic violence through trauma-informed defense training at their gym, Cor Defense. And, they’re using principles and practices they learned at Wellpoint Care to do it.

“A lot of the Trauma Informed Care training […] wouldn’t talk a lot about the application of it, the practical things that you can do, the tangible takeaways to make an environment feel trauma-informed,” says Andrea. Wellpoint Care Network’s approach was different. “It’s just so comprehensive, and I was able to really apply it to what we’re doing. This training empowered us and gave us more creativity.”

Maria Andrade

Maria Andrade

Vice President of Child and Family Well-being

I began my career at Wellpoint Care in 2009. The diversity of the work that I do ensures that no day is like any other. I have the opportunity to lead teams who are focused on supporting the work of our mission — because they understand that ultimately the work we do, whether internally or externally, impacts the families we are here to serve. Wellpoint Care has created an environment that allows me to thrive professionally, while supporting my work-life balance in the various seasons of both my professional and personal life. We are allowed opportunities to be innovative and creative together in how we achieve goals while never losing sight of our mission. It’s encouraging to see the result of the organization listening to feedback by providing space for us to come together as an agency and have conversations around diversity, equity and inclusion, and then be a part of the work towards change.

I am a first-generation Puerto Rican, born in the United States and first in my family to have graduated college and continued on to receive master’s degree. I’m bilingual and fully fluent in Spanish. I oversee the Mentoring Program and am a part many other diversity-related committees. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my loved ones, reading, volunteering and being outside.
