Wellpoint Care Network Launches New Trauma Informed Care Trainer Cohort

Building on 15 years of Trauma Informed Care leadership, Wellpoint Care Network is launching a new 7 Essential Ingredients of Trauma Informed Care (TIC) Trainer Cohort this fall.

“This cohort reflects our commitment to advancing trauma-informed practices and providing high-quality training and real-time coaching for professionals across our community,” said Julie Scott, Wellpoint Care Network’s Director of Trauma Informed Strategy and Practice. “Opportunities like this are critical to strengthening our collective ability to meet mission moments and better serve children, families, and communities.”

The cohort is being sponsored by, and a majority of the funding for participating in the cohort, comes from the Walker Family Foundation and Fostering Futures of Wisconsin.

The organization is led by Wisconsin’s former First Lady Tonette Walker who has been an advocate of Trauma Informed Care (TIC) for nearly two decades.

“I don’t think we’ve fully embraced the concept yet,” said Walker. “We know the science is there. Trauma Informed Care gets to the root causes of the challenges people face, and we have to keep building on the progress we’ve made. We’ve made some big strides, but we’re not there yet.”

10 individuals representing 10 organizations will be chosen for Wellpoint Care Network’s fall cohort. Participants will gather for seven sessions, focused on the implementation of TIC within their organizations. The goal is to move this beyond just a training or single class into real-world, real-time learning and mentoring applications.

“We’ve seen this work,” adds Walker. “When people from different organizations come together and share ideas, challenges, and ideas on how to overcome barriers, real progress happens. It’s a perfect fit for anyone who has gone through the training and then says, ‘Now what?’”

The TIC Trainer cohort will focus on the shared exploration of opportunities, benefits, and challenges within organizations. Participants will be encouraged to collaboratively problem solve and share strategies for putting Trauma Informed Care concepts intro practice.

“The support from Fostering Futures is helping bring advanced training and real-world application to more professionals, creating a broader impact that extends well beyond the cohort participants themselves,” adds Scott, who will lead the cohort.

Although this is the first event of this kind for Wellpoint Care Network, our hope is to make it an ongoing opportunity that continues to grow in the future.

“Wisconsin is a leader in Trauma Informed Care,” said Walker. “We want to see that continue, and Wellpoint Care Network can help us do that.”

If you’re interested in applying, please complete this form. Applications are due August 7. Please note that all applicants must be current certified trainers in Wellpoint Care Network’s 7ei TIC curriculum to be considered.
