Wellpoint Care Network Receives $150,000 Grant From Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation During 175th Anniversary Year to Expand Support for Children and Families

MILWAUKEE — Wellpoint Care Network is proud to announce it has received a $150,000 grant from the Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation.

This investment comes at a meaningful time as the organization marks its 175th anniversary, representing nearly two centuries of service to children and families across Wisconsin.

“As we reflect on 175 years of service, this generous support from the Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation is both a recognition of our history and an investment in what’s ahead,” said Reggie Newson, President and CEO of Wellpoint Care Network. “It strengthens our ability to continue showing up for children and families with the care, connection, and stability they need to move forward.”

Wellpoint Care Network is a community-based organization with deep roots in Milwaukee and a growing reach across 36 counties. Each year, the organization partners with thousands of individuals and families navigating the effects of trauma. Through a comprehensive continuum of care—including mental health services, child and family well-being programs, foster and kinship care, and trauma-informed training—Wellpoint Care Network works to restore the connections that help children and families move forward with stability and purpose.

“We’re incredibly grateful for this support,” said Christa Shields, Vice President of Advancement and Marketing at Wellpoint Care Network. “As we celebrate 175 years, this kind of investment allows us to keep showing up for kids and families in the ways that matter most—from mental health care to housing support to simply having someone in their corner.”

This latest grant builds on a longstanding relationship with the Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation. In 2023, the Foundation made a significant capital investment supporting Wellpoint Care Network’s continued growth and impact. In 2022, funding supported the expansion of telehealth mental health services for Milwaukee residents. Oprah Winfrey has also helped elevate the importance of trauma and resilience nationally, including featuring Wellpoint Care Network (then known as SaintA) in a 60 Minutes segment.

As Wellpoint Care Network reflects on 175 years of impact, this new investment will help ensure the organization continues to create pathways to a thriving tomorrow — for children, families, and communities across Wisconsin.
