Back to School Bash Expands Citywide Through Partnerships with Four Milwaukee Organizations

MILWAUKEE, WIS. — As part of its 175th Anniversary celebration, Wellpoint Care Network is taking its annual Back to School Bash in a new direction. For the first time in the event’s five-year history, Back to School Bash is expanding beyond a single day and a single location, partnering with Outreach Community Health Centers, Safe & Sound, UMOS, and Ross Innovative Employment Solutions to distribute 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies before the start of the school year.

Rather than hosting a single backpack distribution event, Wellpoint Care Network will build on community events its partners are already planning, bringing its annual Back to School Bash into neighborhoods across Milwaukee, while helping more children start the school year prepared and ready to learn.

“Back to School Bash has always been about helping children start the school year with confidence,” said Reggie Newson, President and CEO of Wellpoint Care Network. “As we celebrate 175 years of serving children and families, we wanted to do something that reflects who we are today. By building on events our partners are already hosting throughout Milwaukee, we’re able to put backpacks into the hands of more children before the first day of school, while strengthening the relationships that already exist within our community. That’s the power of partnership.”

As part of this year’s expanded Back to School Bash, Wellpoint Care Network will join its community partners at the following events to distribute backpacks and school supplies:

Saturday, August 8
11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Outreach Community Health Centers

Monday, August 10
3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
District 7 National Night Out with Safe & Sound

Thursday, August 13
2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
UMOS

Friday, August 14
10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Ross Innovative Employment Solutions

The Back to School Bash series will conclude on Saturday, September 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a final event hosted by Wellpoint Care Network on its campus. Families are invited to enjoy food, entertainment, children’s activities, community resources, and celebrate the start of a new school year together.

“Back to School Bash is about so much more than school supplies,” added Newson. “It’s about what can happen when organizations come together around a shared purpose. We’re grateful to partner with organizations across Milwaukee that are helping us reach more children, support more families, and make this year’s Back to School Bash our biggest and most impactful yet.”
