Wellpoint Care Network to Host Third Annual Back to School Bash

Wellpoint Care Network is excited to announce the return of our Back to School Bash. It will be held on Thursday, August 8 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Due to construction, this year’s event will be held in our neighbor’s parking lot: St. Margaret Mary School, 3950 North 92nd Street.

This 3rd annual event is free and open to the community, offering support and resources to ensure students have what they need to thrive this upcoming school year.

“Our Back to School Bash highlights our community-facing commitment to support children and families,” said Ann Leinfelder Grove, Wellpoint Care Network President and CEO. “This event provides connections, fun activities, school supplies, food and fun as we focus our efforts more broadly to create a thriving community and an energized neighborhood. Thank you to our neighbors at St. Margaret Mary Parish for sharing their space with us this year. I am excited to welcome and engage all the families and community partners who will join us on August 8th.”

Dozens of free community resource tables will be on-site, as well as opportunities for children to get haircuts, health screenings, dental cleanings and more. Our goal is to once again pass out 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies, while supplies last.

“It feels amazing that we have the ability to provide backpacks and other school supplies for so many young people,” said Alex Williams, Wellpoint Care Network Director of Community Engagement. “1,000 is a small dent in terms of the young people that live in Milwaukee County. However, we feel it’s a very big impact when we combine it with the resources that we have available. Families are able to come to one site and sign up for food programs, sign up for after-school programs, maybe learn about housing resources, all while simultaneously participating in fun activities like horseback rides or nail painting. This event just fits so perfectly into our mission of helping children and families to thrive.”

Please note that if there is bad weather, the event will be held Friday, August 9 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
